🎨 25 Best Kits of the…

Although the 1990s are still celebrated as the golden era for retro football shirts, numerous unforgettable jerseys have emerged since 2000.

Since the turn of the millennium, we’ve witnessed many designs that have earned a spot in the jersey hall of fame. With clubs now often revealing as many as four new kits each season (including Manchester City’s remarkable nine different kits in 2025), new classics are constantly being introduced.

As we near the end of 2025, we’ve curated a list of 25 standout kit designs from top clubs across various leagues since 2000, selected in collaboration with ESPN editors from around the world.

While some designs pay homage to the past or stick to familiar themes, we’ve excluded reissues or overt throwback styles — meaning shirts like Arsenal’s “bruised banana” away kit from 2019-20 or Inter Milan’s iconic black-and-silver-striped shirt from 2020-21 don’t make the cut. Kits that were worn only as special editions or had novelty designs were also left out.

Below, listed in alphabetical order, are some of the most impressive kits from the 21st century.

1. AC Milan Home, 2000-02 (Adidas)

AC Milan kicked off the 21st century with a striking kit featuring their iconic widened red and black stripes, complemented by a horizontal black band at the top and sleeves. Although the Rossoneri struggled to secure any major trophies during this period, they certainly maintained a stylish presence on the pitch.

2. Ajax Away, 2022-23 (Adidas)

Ajax’s 2022-23 away kit showcased a stunning deep blue design featuring gold and red trim, inspired by Amsterdam’s heraldic symbols. Despite not winning silverware that season, this kit stood out as a significant achievement for the club.

3. Arsenal Home, 2005-06 (Nike)

Arsenal marked their final season at Highbury with an elegant deep red home shirt, featuring gold detailing and a nod to the club’s early kits. This stylish design was worn as they progressed to the UEFA Champions League final, unfortunately losing to Barcelona in Paris.

4. Barcelona Home, 2010-11 (Nike)

Barcelona’s 2010-11 home kit is often regarded as one of their best, particularly during a period when the club boasted an extraordinary lineup. The design featured clear stripes with matching yellow trim and perfectly complemented the illustrious style of player Lionel Messi as they achieved LaLiga and Champions League success.

5. Bayern Munich Away, 2021-22 (Adidas)

Bayern’s away kit for 2021-22 featured a sleek black base, sparkling gold accents, and intricate white detailing creating a unique asymmetrical quartered design. Its premium feel extended to thoughtful touches like the gold emblem on the back neckline, featuring the figure from Munich’s coat of arms.

25. Vissel Kobe Home, 2020 (Asics)

Vissel Kobe launched a lively new kit for the 2020 J. League season, featuring a bold harlequin pattern in maroon and white. Worn by notable European stars including World Cup legends Andrés Iniesta and David Villa, this kit helped the team clinch their first trophy: the 2020 Emperor’s Cup, marking Villa’s farewell in Japan.
