Doku: Teams Struggle to…

Jérémy Doku has indicated that Manchester City is not focused on Arsenal‘s recent performance after they asserted themselves in the Premier League title contention with a win over Liverpool. He emphasized that few teams can match Pep Guardiola’s squad if they continue performing at their peak.

City achieved a commanding 3-0 victory over Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, with Doku playing a pivotal role. Guardiola remarked afterward that this result “demonstrated” City’s readiness to compete for the title.

While Doku stated that he isn’t preoccupied with Arsenal’s position at the top of the table, he acknowledged that Mikel Arteta’s team—currently four points ahead—may find it challenging to keep pace if City maintains their form as displayed against Liverpool.

“We’re just focusing on our own performance,” Doku mentioned.

“We have been developing as a team and are aware that there is always room for improvement. While we are satisfied with our performance [against Liverpool], we must continue to improve in each game.

“We’re not overly concerned with Arsenal or what other teams are doing because ultimately, it all depends on us. We know that when playing well, it’s tough for others to compete with us.”

Doku is experiencing his strongest season at City since transferring from Rennes in 2023.

At just 23 years old, he has already scored three goals this season, including a spectacular strike against Liverpool, and is on track to surpass his best-ever tally of eight goals.

However, the Belgium international asserts that he doesn’t prioritize statistics.

“I don’t focus on those numbers because I think they come naturally,” Doku explained.

“I strive to improve, but I’m not the type of player who dwells on whether I scored or assisted after a game to gauge my performance.

“To me, a bad game means not being involved, being ineffective, or losing possession frequently. If I don’t score, it doesn’t mean I played poorly; I’d consider it a good game regardless. That’s simply my perspective and how I intend to approach the game.”
