Scott McTominay needed just three minutes to further secure his place in Scottish football history.
In a crucial qualifying match for the 2026 World Cup against Denmark, the Napoli midfielder produced an unforgettable moment. Following Denmark’s failure to clear the ball, winger Ben Doak sent in a cross, and McTominay soared into the air. His spectacular right-footed overhead kick found the net, evading Denmark’s goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel and curling into the corner.

McTominay's goal turned out to be pivotal in a thrilling 4-2 victory for Scotland. Additional stunning goals from Kieran Tierney and Kenny McLean secured Scotland's place in the World Cup for the first time since 1998.
On a club level, McTominay has excelled since his ÂŁ25.7 million move to Napoli from Manchester United in 2024, scoring 14 goals in 44 appearances in Serie A. He also finished 18th in the voting for the 2025 Ballon d'Or.
With any luck, more honors and recognition for McTominay are on the horizon.
