Florentino Pérez, president of Real Madrid, has shared more insights about the club’s ambitious “Infinite Bernabéu” virtual reality initiative. He described the partnership with Apple as an opportunity to “open the stadium doors to the entire planet.”
To capture the essence of Madrid’s recent 1-0 victory against Juventus in the UEFA Champions League, over 30 specialized cameras were employed to record footage that will feature in a documentary tailored for Apple’s Vision Pro VR headset, set to debut next year.
Additionally, the NFL held its inaugural regular-season match in Spain last Sunday at the Bernabéu, where the Miami Dolphins triumphed over the Washington Commanders in front of 78,610 spectators.
Pérez, who first introduced the ‘Infinite Bernabéu’ concept during the club’s AGM in 2024, welcomed a delegation from Apple to the Bernabéu this past Wednesday.
“This is a vision I’ve been working on for many years: allowing any fan to feel the thrill of the Bernabéu as if they were present in the stadium,” Pérez expressed in an interview with GQ. “I refer to it as the Infinite Bernabéu, where anyone, from their own home, can immerse themselves in a live match, experiencing a level of presence and emotion previously unattainable.”
The additional cameras filmed various locations within the Bernabéu—such as the tunnel, pitchside, press box, and press conference area—during the Juventus match on October 22 as part of a test run for this cutting-edge technology.
“It will be as if we are opening the stadium to the whole world, without limits or barriers,” Pérez stated, adding that the technological advancements involved would redefine the sports experience.
While acknowledging the potential economic benefits, Pérez emphasized that revenue generation is not the project’s main focus. “The economic impact is significant, but it shouldn’t be our immediate priority,” he noted. “What truly matters is providing a billion Real Madrid fans worldwide with the experience they desire.”
