Amorim: United to retain…

Ruben Amorim has informed Kobbie Mainoo and Joshua Zirkzee that the club’s interests will take precedence when it comes to any potential departures from Manchester United in the upcoming January transfer window.

Both players have faced challenges in securing playing time this season and are eager to seek opportunities away from Old Trafford as they prepare for next summer’s World Cup.

Despite their limited starts, both players consistently feature in Amorim’s matchday selections.

The Portuguese manager emphasized that he wouldn’t allow any player to leave if it does not serve the best interests of the club.

“The primary consideration is the club’s well-being, so our focus must be on the club and the team,” said Amorim. “I was once a player myself, so I comprehend the situation and strive to support my players in every circumstance, but I can’t predict what will happen.”

“I want my players to find happiness. I understand the frustrations, especially with the World Cup approaching, and I recognize the significance it holds, but the priority remains Manchester United. If I can aid both the club and the players, I will be pleased, but if not, I must prioritize the team’s needs.”

In addition to Mainoo’s situation, Manchester United is anticipated to sign at least one central midfielder next summer.

This area has been a concern for Amorim, who has relied heavily on the experience of 33-year-old Casemiro alongside Bruno Fernandes. Casemiro’s role has become even more crucial due to Manuel Ugarte‘s recent struggles.

Amorim, who has worked closely with Ugarte during their time at Sporting CP, noted that the Uruguayan is currently facing difficulties in adapting to the Premier League.

“It’s clear that many talented players come here, and sometimes they find it challenging,” said Amorim. “Ugarte is in a tough spot at the moment, but it’s our responsibility to assist our players. Everything can change, as we saw a mere five weeks ago when the atmosphere was entirely different.”

“While Ugarte currently faces challenges, I aim to help him rediscover his form, much like when he was at Sporting. However, it’s important to acknowledge that this is a different environment, and he needs to adapt and improve, particularly during training.”
