Jones blasts Liverpool…

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones expressed frustration with the team’s performance after suffering their ninth defeat in twelve matches, leaving head coach Arne Slot’s future in jeopardy.

Despite the heavy 4-1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League, Slot claimed he still had the backing of the club’s management and was not worried about his job security.

The team’s struggles are not only reflected in the poor results but also in how they are losing; this match marked the first time in 72 years that Liverpool had lost three games by three or more goals, following defeats to Nottingham Forest and Manchester City.

“I honestly don’t have the answers. This is unacceptable,” Jones stated to RTE. “I’m beyond being angry; I find myself at a loss for words.

“We need to get this team back to where it belongs, to remind everyone why this club is considered the best in the world. Right now, we’re in a terrible situation, and it needs to change.”

It’s hard to imagine that just six months ago, this was a team that dominated the Premier League, now facing boos from their own supporters, a stark reality for Slot.

While his position may not be immediately threatened, the upcoming matches against West Ham on Sunday and a week later at home against Sunderland are crucial for his side.

Slot stated after the disappointing European loss, “I feel secure in my role and have strong backing from above. Of course, it would be great to bounce back and secure a win, but when results are poor, questions will naturally arise.

“I’m comfortable with my position; I’ve faced challenges before, and it’s time for us to turn things around.

“I’m not worried about my situation. My focus is on improving the team, which I strive to do every day.”

Responsibility for the current woes largely falls on Slot for not making necessary changes amid the team’s evident struggles, though individual errors also contribute to the team’s plight.

This season, mistakes have plagued Ibrahima Konaté, but the issues now extend to his partner, Virgil van Dijk, who committed a needless handball that allowed Ivan Perisic to score from the penalty spot.

Dominik Szoboszlai managed to level the score, but goals from Guus Til and two from Couhaib Driouech left the home fans humiliated in the second half.

Following the defeat, most players left Anfield quickly, with even the usually composed Van Dijk dodging reporters.

“It’s a collective effort, and we all must improve, including myself,” remarked Slot. “Now is not the time to dwell on individual mistakes.”
