Mbappé nets 2nd

Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé made history on Wednesday by scoring the second-fastest hat trick in Champions League history, accomplishing the feat in just under seven minutes during a match against Olympiacos.

The French forward later added a fourth goal in the second half, helping Madrid secure a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Greek side while playing on the road.

Mbappé expressed his satisfaction after the match, stating, “It was very important to win again. We know that three games without a victory is not ideal for a team like us. It was a challenging game; winning here is tough. We started poorly, losing possession and conceding the first goal, but then we gained control, scored, and in the second half, it became a bit chaotic as we scored, and they responded.”

Mbappé’s hat trick, completed in 6 minutes and 42 seconds, is only behind Mohamed Salah‘s record of 6 minutes and 12 seconds set against Rangers in October 2022.

Real Madrid found themselves down 1-0 in Greece when Mbappé took the game by storm.

He equalized in the 22nd minute with a low finish from the edge of the penalty area after receiving a one-on-one pass. Just two minutes later, he scored again, heading in a cross from Arda Güler.

Before long, he made it three, collecting a ball from Eduardo Camavinga and finishing effortlessly.

Noticing that he wasn’t done yet, Mbappé scored his fourth goal in the 59th minute.

Reflecting on his performance, Mbappé stated, “I’m very happy—scoring goals is always a joy. My teammates provided excellent assists. I’m fortunate to play alongside these players. I always strive to score, and sometimes it works out, but other times it doesn’t.”

This was Mbappé’s second hat trick in the Champions League this season, following a three-goal match against Kairat Almaty in September. He now boasts a total of five Champions League hat tricks, placing him fourth overall in history. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo hold the record with eight each, while Robert Lewandowski has six.

Mbappé currently sits fifth on the all-time Champions League scoring list, now just eight goals away from tying Real Madrid legend Raúl González for fourth place.

The former Paris Saint-Germain star entered Wednesday’s match seeking to break a goal drought spanning three games, during which Madrid had yet to secure a victory.
