Slot vows to fight on as…

Following discussions with the club’s management, Arne Slot has declared his intent to “fight on” as the manager of Liverpool, despite the team’s recent struggles.

The Reds suffered a 4-1 loss to PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League, marking their ninth defeat in the last twelve matches, with the team having conceded three or more goals in each of their last three outings.

When asked about discussions regarding his future with sporting director Richard Hughes and other senior figures at Anfield, Slot replied, “We have had the same discussions since I arrived here. We just keep fighting and trying to improve—that’s the goal for all of us. But these conversations haven’t changed.”

In response to whether he feels anger towards his players, Slot stated: “Not at all. However, I do acknowledge that our performance standards haven’t met the expectations we typically uphold, and we know we’re capable of better.”

“Last season, when we were performing well, I emphasized the importance of team effort over individual accolades. If the results are lacking, the focus should still remain on the team.”

“Working at a top club brings immense pressure, especially when you start losing more games than what is customary for this club or its players or staff. Pressure is a constant, but last season we felt pressure to win the league, and now it’s a different kind due to the frequency of our losses.”

“For me, I can maintain my approach, but I don’t have to play—so perhaps my situation is a bit easier in that regard. It’s challenging for players during a bad run when you concede early, fight back for a decent first half, only to let in another goal shortly after halftime.”

“With every setback we face, the challenge gets tougher. Yet, we must remain resolute, especially during these tough times. Last season exemplified our grit, which is a hallmark of this club through the years. It’s what we expect from ourselves.”

“The minimum expectation from myself and the team is to deliver for the full 90 minutes, though that can be challenging when faced with ongoing setbacks.”

As Liverpool prepares to face West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday, they may welcome back goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who missed the previous match due to illness.

Additionally, midfielder Florian Wirtz might also be fit to return after a muscle injury, while striker Hugo Ekitike will be evaluated after leaving the game against PSV due to a back issue.
