A player has issued an apology and received a fine from his club for ridiculing the appearance of Angelo Stiller.
Go Ahead Eagles penalized their player, Victor Edvardsen, following an incident with Stuttgart’s Stiller during their match on Wednesday.
Edvardsen’s gesture towards Stiller ignited a confrontation between the players on the field.
“I want to apologize for my actions yesterday,” Edvardsen stated on Thursday.
“There were comments and actions exchanged that have no place in football.”
“After the game, I went to Stuttgart’s locker room to personally apologize. I recognize that as a player, I need to set a good example and uphold my responsibilities.”
The Dutch club has fined Edvardsen €500 ($580, £438), with the amount donated to the club’s social initiatives.
Stuttgart triumphed over Go Ahead Eagles with a 4-0 victory in the Europa League.
