LIMA, Peru — Former Juventus defender Danilo netted a second-half goal, leading Flamengo to a 1-0 victory over Palmeiras in the Copa Libertadores final on Saturday.
Danilo, who also had stints with European clubs like Real Madrid and Manchester City, scored the decisive goal with a header in the 67th minute.
With this triumph, Flamengo secured its fourth Copa Libertadores title, marking its first win since 2022 and adding to previous victories in 1981 and 2019.
Brazil extends its dominance in the tournament with a total of 25 Copa titles, tying with Argentina for the most wins.
Flamengo earned $24 million and a place in the 2029 Club World Cup. The team will also compete in the Recopa against Lanús, which claimed the Copa Sudamericana last Saturday. The runner-up, Palmeiras, received $7 million.
Brazilian clubs have now captured the Copa Libertadores for seven consecutive years, with Argentina’s River Plate being the last non-Brazilian team to secure the title in 2018 after defeating Boca Juniors.
