The United States capped off its 2026 season with another friendly victory against Italy at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Monday evening, concluding their year on a high note.
Previously, the U.S. had achieved a 3-0 win over Italy on Friday, powered by two goals from Catarina Macario. The Chelsea forward continued her scoring streak by netting the opener on Monday with an elegant chip over Italy’s goalkeeper Francesca Durante.
Jaedyn Shaw, who recently celebrated an NWSL championship with Gotham FC, extended the U.S. lead just before halftime. After the team transitioned the ball effectively from the back, Alyssa Thompson set up Shaw, who skillfully maneuvered onto her right foot, took an extra touch, and curled a shot past Durante to make it 2-0 at the halftime whistle.
In the second half, the U.S. came close to scoring a third on two occasions, but Lily Yohannes had a sliding attempt disallowed for offside, and Macario’s later goal was ruled out due to a foul prior to the shot.
The final score of 2-0 sees Emma Hayes’ squad conclude the 2025 season with an impressive record of 12 wins, no draws, and three losses.
