Ruben Amorim praised Mason Mount following Manchester United‘s convincing 4-1 victory over the winless Wolves amidst a tense atmosphere at Molineux.
Initially, it seemed United might squander yet another chance against a Premier League underperformer when Jean-Ricner Bellegarde equalized Bruno Fernandes‘ opening goal just before halftime.
However, determined not to repeat their mistake from last Thursday’s 1-1 draw against West Ham, United surged ahead in the second half with goals from Bryan Mbeumo, Mount, and Fernandes.
“Once again, after scoring, we were a bit careless with the ball, which gave the opponent some hope,” Amorim noted. “We created several chances in the first half that we should have capitalized on. During halftime, the team realized they had everything to secure the win, and they did.”
He added, “The pace and quality we exhibited in the second half were impressive, especially considering the tough moment Wolves are experiencing as a club. We seized that opportunity.”
Mount’s performance earned him the man of the match accolade, with his manager highlighting his versatility. “He can defend, attack, and his quality on the ball is exceptional; so, his performance isn’t surprising to me,” Amorim said. “He exhibits a different kind of leadership—leading by example, regardless of circumstance.”
“Mason is consistent, whether in training, communication, or engaging with others around Carrington. That’s not an easy task, making him a very valuable player.”
The win elevated United to sixth place, while Wolves remain winless after 15 matches, stranded with just two points.
In protest against ownership, many fans delayed taking their seats until the 15th minute, directing loud chants towards Fosun and chairman Jeff Shi during yet another disheartening night at Molineux.

Wolves manager Rob Edwards described the match as a “really challenging night,” reflecting on the growing frustration from fans that has spilled over to the players, including Jørgen Strand Larsen, who faced cheers when substituted.
“I completely understand the frustration,” Edwards stated regarding the protests and their effect on the team. “It’s been six months since our last win, and I get it. I would love for fans to support the players, but I recognize their discontent given the situation. I assure you the players are trying, but there’s clearly a lack of confidence and belief, making it challenging for them to perform at their best.”
