KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Wrianna Hudson netted a crucial goal in the 87th minute, while Kate Ockene recorded nine saves, leading Florida State to a 1-0 victory over Stanford in an all-Atlantic Coast Conference showdown for the Women’s College Cup at CPKC Stadium on Monday night.

The Seminoles (20-2-4), who entered as the No. 3 seed, snapped Stanford’s (21-2-2) impressive 17-match unbeaten streak. This victory marked Florida State’s fifth national championship, with three titles achieved in the past five seasons. They previously triumphed over Stanford 5-1 in 2023 and edged BYU 4-3 in penalties after a scoreless draw in 2021.

Hudson, who also scored in the semifinals against TCU, capitalized on a deflection with just over three minutes remaining. She received assists from Taylor Suarez and Janet Okeke.

Ockene was instrumental in the first half, recording six saves to keep the game scoreless. She exhibited remarkable skill, making four saves in just over three minutes shortly after the match began. Notably, she blocked a free kick from Jasmine Aikey in the 70th minute and made her final save on a shot from Eleanor Klinger in the 76th minute.

On the other end, Stanford’s Caroline Birkel made two saves in the second half but was not challenged while facing Florida State’s four shots in the first half.

Stanford set a tournament record with 21 goals across its first four matches. The Cardinal secured a 1-0 victory over Duke in the semifinals.

Earlier in the season, Stanford defeated Florida State 2-1 in a match played on October 16.
