Chivas Officially Confirms…

Chivas officially announced on Thursday that Javier “Chicharito” Hernández will not be continuing with the club as they prepare for the upcoming Liga MX Clausura 2026 tournament.

The announcement came via their social media platforms as the striker concluded his second term with the club post the Apertura 2025 tournament, where Chivas secured a sixth-place finish overall.

“Club Deportivo Guadalajara wishes to inform that Javier Hernández Balcázar is concluding his second term as a Chivas player. The connection between ‘Chicharito’ and this club, which has been integral to his journey and status as a Mexican football legend, will remain forever. Javier is undoubtedly one of the most significant figures in Mexican football history. With the Rebaño Sagrado, he captured the Apertura 2006 league title and was recognized as the top scorer in the Bicentenario 2010 tournament, later embarking on a professional journey that included success at several leading European clubs,” Chivas shared in their social media statement.

Hernández rejoined Chivas in January 2024 after an extensive career in Europe and the United States. During his time with the team, he played 41 matches, scoring four goals and providing one assist.

The former Manchester United, Real Madrid, and LA Galaxy striker holds the title of Mexico‘s all-time leading goalscorer, despite not having represented El Tri since 2019.

His second stint at Club Deportivo Guadalajara was marred by injuries.

Earlier this year, Hernández faced criticism for making sexist remarks online, which resulted in a fine from the Mexico Football Federation (FMF) and backlash from the nation’s president. He later expressed remorse, stating he regretted “any confusion or discomfort my recent words may have caused.”
