Chapecoense Honors…

Brazilian club Chapecoense is paying tribute to Colombian team Atlético Nacional and the victims of the 2016 plane crash with the release of a new jersey.

Next year marks the 10th anniversary of this tragic event, which occurred on November 28.

The plane crash near Medellín, Colombia, resulted in the loss of 71 lives, including 19 players and staff from Chapecoense, as they were en route to the Copa Sudamericana final against Atlético Nacional.

Following the crash, Atlético Nacional advocated for Chapecoense to be awarded the Copa Sudamericana title posthumously.

In a club statement, Chapecoense expressed: “The 2026 season jersey represents a tribute to Atlético Nacional, a club that showcased its greatness in 2016 through impressive acts of solidarity, empathy, and love, transcending borders and becoming an integral part of both world football history and Chapecoense’s recovery.”

The jersey will feature a seal near the collar with the phrase “Forever Remembered,” honoring the victims of the 2016 tragedy.

Designed with green and white stripes reminiscent of Atlético Nacional’s colors, the new Chapecoense jersey symbolizes unity, respect, and gratitude, reinforcing “the values that continue to guide Chapecoense.”

Neto, a former Chapecoense defender and one of the accident’s survivors, is the face of this tribute campaign.

After being relegated to the second division in 2021, Chapecoense secured a promotion back to Brazil’s top league last month, finishing third in the second tier.
