Inter Miami, Luis Suárez…

Inter Miami CF announced on Wednesday that they have re-signed forward Luis Suárez to a contract that will keep him with the team through the 2026 MLS season.

Suárez initially joined Inter Miami in December 2023 on a one-year deal before opting to extend his contract through the 2025 season.

However, that extension lapsed after the team participated in the MLS Cup on December 6.

Co-owner Jorge Mas mentioned that Suárez will have the final say regarding his future at the club, with the option to renew his contract for another year if he chooses to remain.

“Luis Suárez is a football legend and one of the greatest strikers of both our time and all time,” Mas told the media on December 6. “He will need to decide what he wishes to do when the season wraps up.”

“If at the start of the year someone handed us a paper outlining a center forward who played over 4,000 minutes and tallied 15 or 16 goals with 16 or 17 assists, we would all gladly accept that offer. Luis deserves the chance to make that choice and depart in a manner that befits his legacy with the club. If he chooses to stay for another year, that would be fantastic, and we would include [head coach Javier] Mascherano in those discussions, but the ultimate choice is his.”

Though his involvement was limited in the team’s final playoff matches, Suárez finished the season with 17 goals and 17 assists across all competitions, including the Concacaf Champions Cup, MLS, FIFA Club World Cup, and Leagues Cup.

Since joining ahead of the 2024 season, Suárez has netted 42 goals—the second-highest total in the club’s history—and has contributed 30 assists in 87 appearances.

Suárez also played a pivotal role in the 2024 season, helping the team secure the Supporters’ Shield and set the record for the most points in a single season, and contributed to the 2025 squad that won the MLS Cup.

As Inter Miami prepares for the 2026 MLS season, they are making adjustments to their roster, including the recent addition of Sergio Reguilón following Jordi Alba’s retirement. The club is also in talks with Tadeo Allende regarding a new contract for the upcoming season.
