Bruno Fernandes expressed his desire to compete in either Spain or Italy once he departs from Manchester United.
The Portuguese international, who is under contract with United until June 2027, declined a lucrative offer from Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal this past summer.
In a two-part interview with Canal 11, a Portuguese television station, Fernandes disclosed that United encouraged him to join Al Hilal, but in the second segment aired on Wednesday, he affirmed his intention to stay at the club.
“I’ve always stated that I want to stay in a place as long as I’m wanted,” he noted. “If I ever feel that I’m not fully appreciated, I will have a conversation with the club about leaving.”
“I’m keen to experience the Spanish league since I’ve never played there. Additionally, I would love to play for a prominent Italian club pursuing major honors, especially as I truly enjoyed my time living in Italy.”

At 31, Fernandes began his career in Italy, playing for Novara, Udinese, and Sampdoria before joining Portuguese club Sporting CP in 2017.
“I have strong ties to Italy,” the Manchester United captain reflected. “My daughter was born there, and she expresses a desire to learn Italian. If I could facilitate that and play for a club in Italy that aims for titles, it’s a notion I find appealing.”
Fernandes hasn’t ruled out returning to play in his home country, having transferred from Sporting to United for £68 million ($90m) in January 2020.
“I’ve considered going back to Portugal,” he said. “Returning to a place where you experienced happiness can sometimes taint the memories you left with. Out of respect and care, my first choice would be Sporting.”
“However, I want to ensure I don’t diminish the wonderful image I hold. For family reasons, I’d like to come back, but only if I can contribute meaningfully.”
Fernandes aspires to maintain a long career in football.
“I want to extend my playing career for as long as possible,” he concluded. “I’m open to playing in lower leagues. What matters most to me is enjoying the game.”
