Ruben Amorim is optimistic about Manchester United contending for the Premier League title much sooner than the 10 or 11 years that Sir Alex Ferguson anticipates it might take.
Since Ferguson left the club as a champion in 2013, the Red Devils have not added to their tally of 20 English league titles.
Ferguson expressed concerns to Press Box PR, stating that United finds itself in a situation similar to that of Liverpool, who went three decades without claiming the league crown.
He commented, “It could be 10 years, 11 years” before the Premier League trophy graces Old Trafford again, yet Amorim believes a longer wait is unnecessary.
“He surely knows more about football than I do, especially regarding English football,” said the current United manager. “I don’t believe it will take us that long to win the league.”
“I can’t predict who the manager will be down the line, but I genuinely believe we can compete for the title in the next few years.”
“I don’t think it will be a protracted wait, but time will tell.”
As they prepare for this weekend’s match against a formidable Aston Villa, United is currently positioned sixth, though Amorim will be missing six key players.

Injuries to Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt, along with Casemiro’s one-match suspension, further complicate matters. Amad Diallo, Bryan Mbeumo, and Noussair Mazraoui will be absent due to participation in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Bruno Fernandes is expected to be among the starting lineup, following a week when he revealed that “the club wanted me to leave” after Al-Hilal made a lucrative summer offer.
“The difference is that he communicated with the club before making that statement, expressing his feelings,” Amorim noted.
“While we can manage such situations, I believe he spoke to the board, and all should be clear now.”
Fernandes also hinted that not everyone supports United with the same passion he does.
Amorim remarked, “I can’t determine if that’s fair. He expressed his sentiments, and it’s for him to clarify. But I believe he exemplifies dedication; he gives everything in training and during matches.”
“His commitment is remarkable, and I think he realizes the importance of raising our standards, so it’s essential we look to him as a leader within the squad.”
