Mikel Arteta has suggested the possibility of extending his tenure at Arsenal beyond his current contract, although he emphasized the need to earn such an opportunity first.
The upcoming Premier League match against Everton marks the sixth anniversary of Arteta’s appointment as manager of the Gunners.
At 43 years old, he has 18 months left on his current contract and plays a critical role at the club following a remarkable turnaround during his six years in charge.
Arteta was elevated from head coach to manager after clinching the FA Cup in 2020, and he is regarded as one of the most influential figures in the Premier League due to the level of authority he wields.
When asked about his prospects of remaining with Arsenal beyond 2027, Arteta replied, “Yes, but it’s about today. A lot of things need to happen in the upcoming months for me to earn that right.”
“A manager must earn the right to be here tomorrow. This involves how you react, communicate, and interact with the players,” he continued. “Support from the ownership and board is essential, but the most crucial aspect is the players. You need openness in communication, and their reactions will tell you a lot.”
“During these six years, I have seen players with a strong desire to learn and contribute to the team’s success. That motivation is what keeps me in my position. Winning matches consistently is vital; it’s the only way to thrive in this business.”

Bukayo Saka is currently in talks regarding a new contract, while Declan Rice is also expected to receive a new offer soon.
When asked if players were inquiring about his long-term future at Arsenal during these negotiations, Arteta responded, “They do ask, but I cannot mislead them. Honestly, I don’t know. It’s not solely my decision.”
“I can assure them that I am happy here, that I have the energy to lead this club forward, and that is a firm yes. However, the decision is not entirely in my hands. The players must decide based on their perspectives.”
“It’s a positive indication when a player talks with me about these matters and expresses a strong desire to stay, as it reflects that the club is supporting them well and that they believe Arsenal is the right place to achieve their aspirations.”
