Liverpool forward Alexander Isak could potentially face an extended absence from the pitch following an injury sustained while scoring during his team’s Premier League victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Isak entered the match as a second-half substitute and netted the opener against a 10-man Spurs with a confident finish in the 56th minute.
Unfortunately, the Sweden international was forced to exit shortly after, following a collision with Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven in the penalty area, where he appeared to injure his right knee.
Although he did not require a stretcher, he appeared to be in considerable pain as he exited the field, leaving Liverpool anxiously awaiting updates on the severity of his injury.

“I don’t have any updates on him, but typically when a player scores and then cannot continue, it’s not a promising sign. However, I’m unable to provide further details at this moment,” said Liverpool manager Arne Slot. “It’s just a gut feeling, but I haven’t spoken to him yet.”
“It’s fortunate that he scored. It was a great goal, beautifully assisted by Florian Wirtz.”
This injury adds to the woes of the 26-year-old, who has had a challenging start in Liverpool following a contentious summer transfer from Newcastle United.
Having moved to Liverpool on transfer deadline day for £125 million ($167 million), the striker has managed to score only three goals across all competitions thus far and has previously been sidelined with a groin injury earlier in the season.
Reflecting on Isak’s goal, Slot remarked, “That’s the level of performance we’d like to see consistently. A solid finish and a nice assist. Let’s not jump to conclusions just yet; we are still uncertain. Fingers crossed he will return to us soon, but it’s tough to predict at this stage.”
Hugo Ekitike added a second goal for Liverpool in the 66th minute at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Spurs nearly leveled the score when Richarlison found the back of the net in the 83rd minute.
However, the home side finished the match with just nine players after defender Cristian Romero was sent off in stoppage time, allowing Liverpool to clinch a crucial three points.
