Kieffer Moore scored twice against his former team as Wrexham staged an incredible comeback, defeating Sheffield United 5-3 in a thrilling Boxing Day match at StōK Cae Ras.
Patrick Bamford initially captured the spotlight with a well-executed brace for the Blades, but Wrexham surged back for their first win in six Sky Bet Championship matches.
With his short-term contract set to expire on New Year’s Day, Bamford made a statement by scoring two goals before a Tyler Bindon own goal added to Wrexham’s woes.
Callum O’Hare netted a third for Chris Wilder’s side, but Wrexham responded impressively through Moore and later equalized thanks to Ryan Longman.
Moore then gave Wrexham the lead, and a penalty from Josh Windass sealed the comeback victory.
The match kicked off with excitement as O’Hare nearly scored, heading narrowly wide from a Sam McCallum cross.
Bamford opened the scoring just seven minutes in, deftly guiding a cross from Femi Seriki into the net with a stunning volley off the far post.
Wrexham quickly equalized as George Thomason delivered a low, dangerous cross that deflected off Windass and into the net due to a mistake by Bindon.
The Blades regained the lead in the 15th minute when Seriki sent in a tricky cross that Bamford converted from close range.
Wrexham came close to leveling again when Callum Doyle forced Oliver Arblaster to clear off the line. However, Sheffield then made it 3-1 from a long throw-in when Moore inadvertently redirected the ball into O’Hare’s path for a header.
Moore redeemed himself shortly after, scoring with a powerful header from a corner taken by Thomason to bring Wrexham back to 3-2.
Both sides created more chances before halftime, with Okonkwo making crucial saves against Bamford and Tahith Chong
, while Wrexham had two penalty appeals denied.
The hosts pulled level just after the break when Longman headed in from a precise Thomason cross.
Okonkwo denied a fierce free-kick from Gustavo Hamer, but Wrexham began to dominate the match. Windass and Arblaster pressed the visitors and cleared a dangerous goal line situation.
The pressure paid off when Moore scored again 14 minutes from time, racing onto a pass from Nathan Broadhead and slotting it past Cooper.
Wrexham sealed the victory five minutes later when Windass converted a penalty after Thomason was fouled by Harrison Burrows.
Sheffield United almost found a consolation goal late on, but Tyrese Campbell hit the bar.
