Manchester United is considering appointing an interim coach to replace Ruben Amorim for the remainder of the season, with plans to secure a permanent replacement in the summer, according to ESPN sources.
Darren Fletcher, presently the under-18s manager, will lead the team for the upcoming match against Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday.
The former United and Scotland midfielder may also continue in this role for the FA Cup third round match against Brighton at Old Trafford on Sunday.
ESPN sources indicate that the club is exploring temporary options to ensure they have a coach in place until the season concludes.
While a final decision has yet to be reached, this approach is believed to provide additional time for the search for Amorim’s long-term successor.
The Portuguese coach was dismissed on Monday after spending 14 months in the role.
According to sources, United is eager to consider managers with Premier League experience for their permanent appointment.
Potential candidates include Thomas Tuchel, Oliver Glasner, Mauricio Pochettino, and Andoni Iraola.
Glasner, who led Crystal Palace to an FA Cup victory last season, could be a favorable option as he will be a free agent at the end of this season.
Tuchel, currently managing the England national team until after the World Cup, was previously considered for the Old Trafford role when Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the board contemplated sacking Erik ten Hag in summer 2024.
The Dutch manager ultimately remained in his position until November before being replaced by Amorim.

Tuchel, who enjoyed a successful tenure at Chelsea, winning the Champions League, may require persuasion to take up the role at United, as sources have revealed that he was dissatisfied with the initial interview process conducted by Ratcliffe.
