Dias (hamstring) out 6…

The injury crisis in Manchester City’s defense has intensified, as Pep Guardiola has announced that Rúben Dias is expected to be sidelined for up to six weeks due to a hamstring injury.

Guardiola is already missing Josko Gvardiol, who is scheduled to undergo surgery for a broken shin bone this week.

Like Gvardiol, Dias was also injured in the second half of City’s recent 1-1 draw against Chelsea on Sunday.

With Brighton set to visit the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, Guardiola confirmed that the Portugal international will be out for more than a month.

In addition, John Stones is still absent after making only one league start since August.

“With the spirit we have, we can always cope,” Guardiola stated. “These situations happen and we wish both Josko and Ruben, along with John, a speedy recovery so we can get through this period. I’m optimistic and confident that we will manage.”

The shortage in defensive players has raised speculation that City may target Crystal Palace center-back Marc Guéhi during the January transfer window.

Guéhi, who was close to joining Liverpool over the summer, will be a free agent at Crystal Palace when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Additionally, City are reportedly nearing a deal to sign Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth, having indicated their intention to activate the £65 million [$88 million] release clause in his contract.

“We may look to add some players in January, but it will be a different situation,” Guardiola explained. “We are not planning to bring in four or five players like we did last season.”
