Spurs Boss Supports Romero…

Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has come to the defense of captain Cristian Romero, following a social media post in which Romero accused individuals at the club of spreading “lies.”

This statement, in which he expressed his apologies to fans and later revised the content, was published after Tottenham’s recent 3-2 loss to Bournemouth on Wednesday.

“At times like this, it’s usually the others who should speak out, but they don’t — this has been the case for several years,” Romero stated on Instagram.

“They only appear when things are going well.”

Initially, the post read: “They only show up when things are good, to tell a few lies.”

With Tottenham set to face Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Saturday, Frank acknowledged that while he supports his captain, the post was indeed a “mistake.”

“Since becoming captain, Romero has consistently done a lot of things right. When I appointed him, I mentioned that although he is an experienced player, he is still a young leader learning the ropes,” Frank commented.

“I was actually pleased with his performance last night; he really stepped up as a captain throughout the match.

“During halftime, when we were trailing 2-1, he encouraged the team to keep believing and doing the right things. However, being a young leader means sometimes you make mistakes; it’s best to address those internally.

“[Sporting Director] Johan [Lange] and I had a constructive discussion with him this morning regarding everything, which we’ll keep between ourselves.”

In addition, Frank mentioned that they are awaiting further updates on the extent of injuries affecting players including Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Bergvall, who sustained injuries during the match against Bournemouth.

“Lucas is undergoing evaluation today; we will have more information on him soon. The same goes for Rodri, who appears to have a hamstring injury that might be more serious. We are still unsure about the severity,” Frank stated.

“As for Mohammed Kudus, it seems to be a more significant issue involving the tendon and quad, and we do not expect him back until after the March international break.

“Regarding Dejan Kulusevski, his injury is quite complicated, although if anyone can return earlier, it’s Deki.

“The priority is to alleviate the knee pain; he received an injection ten days ago, and we should know within the next 3-4 weeks if that has been effective, enabling him to return to training.”
