Slegers Commits to Arsenal…

Renee Slegers, the head coach who led Arsenal to a Champions League victory, has signed a new long-term contract that will keep her with the club until 2029.

Discussions about a new deal have been ongoing since the summer, aimed at solidifying Slegers’ position after she was permanently appointed in January 2025, following her interim tenure.

“I’m thrilled to sign a new contract here because I believe we have a lot to achieve together—this season and in the coming years,” Slegers stated in an interview with the club’s media.

“I want to express my gratitude to our supporters for their incredible backing, whether at the Emirates Stadium, Meadow Park, or away games. We notice, we appreciate, and we feel your support every day.”

Jodie Taylor, a former player and the club’s Technical Services Manager, has taken on a new role as Technical Director. She will act as a liaison between the analysis, technical, and recruitment departments to improve operational efficiency.

The club identified that previous disconnections were causing bottlenecks in operations. Although Taylor has already been fulfilling a similar role, she will now work more closely with Slegers, serving as a daily point of contact with Clare Wheatley, who will step back from these responsibilities.

Slegers, who had a history as an academy player for Arsenal, joined the staff in 2023 as an assistant coach after leading Rosengard to back-to-back Swedish League titles over two years.

The 36-year-old coach guided the team to an impressive 11-game unbeaten streak and secured a second-place finish in the Women’s Super League last season, marking their highest position in three years.

This long-term agreement also supports Slegers’ professional growth and enables her to oversee three significant summer transfer windows, as the club anticipates a busy period in the transfer market.
