Liam Rosenior expressed confidence that Chelsea can replicate the success of Manchester United’s iconic ‘Class of ’92’ as they aim to secure trophies with a focus on young talent.
The 41-year-old will be in charge of Chelsea for the first time during Saturday’s FA Cup third round against Championship club Charlton Athletic.
This season, Chelsea boasts the youngest squad in the Premier League, with Tosin Adarabioyo being the oldest at 28. Rosenior’s predecessor, Enzo Maresca, pointed out that the youthful squad may have contributed to inconsistency on the field.
Rosenior referred to the example of Manchester United, which dominated English football in the 1990s as David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Nicky Butt, and Ryan Giggs emerged as key players under Sir Alex Ferguson’s guidance.
“People may call me biased, but I was a fan of Manchester United and now I’m an ardent Chelsea supporter,” said Rosenior, who previously managed a young squad at Strasbourg.
“I recall how Sir Alex Ferguson had the courage to include six or seven players aged 19 to 21 in a title-winning team because he believed in their potential. They matured and secured a series of trophies during an extraordinary era for the club. Without that bravery, such success wouldn’t have happened.”
“There’s potential for that to happen here as well. It’s not guaranteed, but there is certainly potential. Take players like Moisés Caicedo, Enzo Fernández, Cole Palmer, and Reece James—they’re all incredibly talented yet still young.
“The ultimate goal for this club is to recreate that success. I’m not saying I’ll achieve that overnight, but I refuse to limit the ambitions of the club.
“Having proven my ability to work with young players at Strasbourg by helping them develop while winning matches, I am confident that I can replicate that success here as well.”

When asked about the advantage the young United stars had from seasoned pros like Peter Schmeichel, Roy Keane, Eric Cantona, and Steve Bruce, Rosenior responded: “Absolutely, and in time, you’ll see the impact of our ongoing discussions. Our focus is on winning. The goal is clear: to deliver trophies for Chelsea, and I am committed to that. Whether I’m here in three, four, or five years, I believe this club is poised for sustained success.”
“Age matters, but experience does too. Enzo has won a World Cup and is a key leader in our group, and Reece has secured multiple titles.
“We have players with experience, even if they are younger. This group has already tasted success, and I aim to harness that experience to drive us toward future victories.”
