Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has expressed uncertainty about his future with the club, as his contract is set to expire this summer.
Under former manager Jürgen Klopp, Robertson was a key figure at Anfield and played a significant role in the team’s Premier League title win with Arne Slot last season.
Despite establishing himself as a regular starter, the left-back was rumored to be leaving last summer following Liverpool’s £40 million acquisition of Milos Kerkez from AFC Bournemouth, who has been a consistent starter for Liverpool this season.
Regarding his future, Robertson stated, “We’ll see what happens. We’ve had discussions that will remain private. I’ve talked to the club, and we’ll see what comes next.”
When asked about his desire to remain with Liverpool, the Scotland international replied, “Yes, but it’s a complex question. I have five months left on my contract, and we need to assess if there are options to stay or if there are alternatives. I’ll discuss it with my family and make a decision.”
“After a challenging summer, I’m focusing on enjoying my time as a Liverpool player. I aimed to qualify for the World Cup, and thankfully we succeeded. Now I need to think about what my family and I want for the future.”
Robertson signed with Liverpool in 2017 for £8 million from Hull City and has since made over 350 appearances, claiming numerous major titles, including two Premier League championships and the UEFA Champions League.
On whether the upcoming months will influence his decision, the 31-year-old remarked, “I don’t see it that way. I’ve given everything for this club over the past eight and a half years, and the club has treated me well, rewarding me with fair contracts during my good performances.”

“No one can dispute my commitment to this club. I’ve poured my heart into every match and delivered performances that I hope resonate. I’ve celebrated numerous victories and milestones here. It’s not about what the club needs to demonstrate over the next four months; my relationship with the management has been strong since my arrival. The fact that they signed me for £8 million and where I am now reflects that mutual respect.”
Robertson continued, “When Jürgen Klopp sidelined me for a single game, I was furious! I am a player who aspires to be on the pitch. I have played through injuries, competing even when I was far from fully fit. I always want to contribute. Currently, that’s not happening, which feels different. Nonetheless, I appreciate my new role this season, even though at the end of the day, football players thrive on playing. Anyone content to sit on the bench isn’t suited for any club.”
“That’s my belief; players should always strive for a spot in the lineup. If you’re just comfortable being on the bench, whether at Liverpool or elsewhere, then your mindset might be off. I’ve performed well in the games I’ve been in this season. While I might not have played as often as I wished, it’s not something I’m surprised by. We’ll see what unfolds.”
