ESP sources report that Girona is on the verge of signing Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen on a loan deal until the season’s end.
The 33-year-old shot-stopper has lost his starting position at Barça to Joan García, and is eager for regular playing time to secure his spot in Germany‘s World Cup squad this summer.
Discussions between the two clubs are ongoing, focusing on the final terms of the loan, including how much of ter Stegen’s salary each club will pay. However, the goalkeeper has approved the move to fellow LaLiga team Girona.

Cancelo may not have been Flick’s first choice, but could fill a vital role for Barcelona
Sources indicate that ter Stegen’s decision was influenced by being benched during Thursday’s Copa del Rey match against Racing Santander, after starting in the previous round against Guadalajara.
Located just 100 km (62 miles) north of Barcelona, Girona is also an attractive option for ter Stegen as it would allow him to remain close to his children.
Coach Hansi Flick has confirmed in recent weeks that García, who was a €25 million ($29 million) summer acquisition from Espanyol, is the primary choice for the goalkeeper position at Barça.
With Wojciech Szczęsny also in the squad, earlier reports suggested that Barça had opened the possibility for ter Stegen, who is under contract until 2028, to leave in January.
Since joining from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2014, ter Stegen has made 423 appearances for Barça, winning 17 trophies. However, injuries have limited his playing time since Flick’s arrival in 2024, including a significant knee injury last season and back surgery that kept him sidelined for the first four months of the current campaign, with his return to fitness only occurring in December.
