Wrexham Captain McClean…

Championship team Wrexham has confirmed that their club captain has departed by mutual agreement to join the Irish club Derry City.

At age 36, McClean joined the Welsh club in 2023 and became a key player, contributing to their consecutive promotions from League Two to the Championship.

During his two-and-a-half-year tenure at Wrexham, he made 95 league appearances, showcasing his value to the team.

He is making a return to Derry City, where he previously spent three years at the beginning of his career and will now reunite with his younger brother Patrick, who was also announced as a returnee to the club on Friday.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson commented, “I had a productive conversation with Jimmy last week. The timing is right for him and his family. He has always wanted to settle back in his hometown, and he now has the chance to conclude his career there.”

From Wrexham to Macclesfield, the FA Cup is why we love football

“He has been a tremendous asset to the club, and we have thoroughly enjoyed working with him. His drive, determination, mentality, and professionalism have made him an important player for us in recent years. We wish him and his family all the best.”

In addition to his time at Wrexham, McClean has had stints in the Premier League with Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion, and he earned 103 international caps for the Republic of Ireland before he retired from international duty in 2023.
