Leicester Sack Cifuentes…

Leicester City has parted ways with manager Marti Cifuentes after a tenure that lasted just over six months.

Cifuentes took over the role in July, succeeding Ruud van Nistelrooy after his exit from QPR. The Foxes are now looking for their seventh permanent manager in the past two-and-a-half years.

First-team coach Andy King will serve as the interim manager, as announced by the club.

The team’s recent 2-1 loss at home to Oxford marked their 11th defeat in the Sky Bet Championship this season, leaving them six points away from playoff contention in 14th place.

The club made Cifuentes’ departure official through a statement on their website, with chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha describing the decision as “difficult” but made in the best interests of the club.

Srivaddhanaprabha stated, “This has been a challenging decision, and one I have not made lightly. I want to extend my gratitude to Marti for his unwavering commitment during his time at Leicester City.

“He dedicated himself fully to the role and worked diligently to help us reach our goals.

“However, I believe this is the necessary step to enhance our performances and results, acting in the best interests of Leicester City Football Club. Marti departs with our sincere thanks and best wishes for his future endeavors.”

Last year, Leicester faced charges for violating EFL financial regulations and may be subjected to a points deduction.

Since their relegation from the Premier League in 2023, the Foxes have struggled to mount a promotion challenge, and they have also been unable to bolster their squad in the last two transfer windows.
