HARRISON, N.J. — Goalkeeper Ethan Horvath has made a move to MLS team New York Red Bulls, transferring from England’s third-tier Cardiff City. He has signed a contract lasting 1.5 years, which includes options for the 2027-28 and 2028-29 seasons.
In return for his discovery rights, New York will pay Charlotte $75,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) for both 2026 and 2027, along with the highest of its second-round draft picks for 2027.
Previously, Horvath was on loan at second-tier Sheffield Wednesday, where he made 16 appearances, including 14 in league play and two in the League Cup.
Although he was born in the United States, Horvath has yet to play in the MLS.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper has had stints at clubs such as Molde, Club Brugge, Nottingham Forest, Luton, and Cardiff. He has earned 10 caps for the United States, but it appears he is not in manager Mauricio Pochettino’s plans for this summer’s World Cup.
