Szoboszlai: Liverpool…

Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has expressed his desire to remain at the club but noted that the ultimate decision is “not in [his] hands.”

His current contract runs until 2028, but Liverpool has initiated discussions for a new deal, with sources indicating that they see Szoboszlai as a potential future captain and want to reward him for his excellent performance this season.

When asked about the status of negotiations, Szoboszlai said, “Nothing yet, to be honest. There hasn’t been any progress at this point… it’s not up to me. If the right offer comes in, we’ll see.

“Let’s see what unfolds; hopefully, everyone will be satisfied in the end. Of course, I want to stay. I enjoy the city, the club, playing with my teammates, I love Anfield, and I adore the fans. We’ll see what the future brings.”

Since joining Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2023, Szoboszlai has established himself as a key player, netting eight goals and providing seven assists across all competitions this season.

Recently, the Hungary international had to step in as a right-back during Liverpool’s 4-1 victory over Newcastle United due to injuries affecting Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong. However, he clarified that he does not see himself as a long-term solution for the defense.

“Not a long-term solution, and certainly not a medium-term fix, in my view,” he stated. “I’ve mentioned before, I’m a midfielder, and I hope our right-back returns from injury soon, allowing me to revert back to my preferred position in the middle of the pitch. But if the team or the coach requires me in that role, I’ll play there to the best of my ability. Fortunately, Wataru [Endo] and Curtis [Jones] are also equipped to play that position, giving us plenty of options at the moment.”

Szoboszlai added, “I’m the kind of player who always strives for improvement; there’s always room for growth. I aim to score as many goals as possible, provide countless assists, and win as many trophies as I can. That’s my vision and the way I’ve been raised, and I plan to continue in that mindset.”
