MADRID — Atlético Madrid has announced an agreement with Serie A side Atalanta to acquire Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman.
Lookman is already in Madrid to finalize his contract, the club confirmed on Sunday.
“The agreement is contingent upon passing his medical examination and finalizing his contract,” stated Atlético, without providing additional details.
Lookman is expected to undergo his medical assessment on Monday.
The 28-year-old player previously represented Fulham and Leicester before joining Atalanta in 2022. He has also had stints at Leipzig and Everton.
Lookman netted three goals for Nigeria during the Africa Cup of Nations, leading his team to a third-place finish after losing to Morocco in the semifinals via a shootout.
Currently, Atlético sits third in LaLiga, trailing second-place Real Madrid by nine points and ten points behind leaders Barcelona after 22 matches.
Diego Simeone’s squad will face Club Brugge in the Champions League playoffs later this month.
