Initial reports of Minnesota’s interest in Rodríguez came from The Athletic.
Rodríguez, at 34, has been without a contract since December when his agreement with Liga MX club León expired.
This marked another transitional period in his career, which has seen him play for multiple clubs in recent years. After a loan at Bayern Munich from 2017 to 2019, his subsequent stops included Everton, Olympiacos, Rayo Vallecano, and several others.
Despite these changes at the club level, Rodríguez continues to excel on the international stage, having won the Golden Ball at the 2024 Copa America where he registered one goal and six assists, helping Colombia reach the final against Argentina, where they narrowly lost 1-0.
Over his international career, Rodríguez has made 122 appearances for Colombia, scoring 31 goals. He is expected to play a key role in Colombia’s attack during the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
A notable achievement came during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, where he earned the Golden Boot by scoring six goals and providing two assists, leading his team to the quarterfinals.
Rodríguez began his professional journey in his home country with Envigado before moving to Banfield in Argentina in 2008. He has since played for some of the world’s most prestigious clubs, including FC Porto, AS Monaco, and Real Madrid.
