USMNTs Cardoso out 2…

The midfielder for the United States men’s national team, Johnny Cardoso, has been diagnosed with a low-grade muscle injury he sustained during a training session on Wednesday. According to Atlético Madrid, he will be sidelined for at least a week.

Unfortunately, Cardoso will miss the upcoming Copa del Rey quarterfinal match against Real Betis, which is also his former club.

As per the club’s statement, Cardoso exited Wednesday’s training due to discomfort, leading to Koke Resurrección taking his place in practice sessions led by manager Diego Simeone.

Medical tests confirmed the injury, which also means he will not participate in the following LaLiga match against Betis on Sunday at the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid.

At 24, Cardoso joins Alexander Sørloth on Atlético’s injury list. Sørloth suffered a head injury in last Saturday’s match against Levante.

During the January transfer window, Atlético acquired forward Ademola Lookman from Atalanta, along with midfielders Obed Vargas and Rodrigo Mendoza from Seattle Sounders FC and Elche, respectively.
