LAFC Acquires Canadian…

LAFC has officially signed Canada midfielder Stephen Eustáquio from FC Porto on an initial loan deal that runs through June 30, with an option to make the transfer permanent.

On Friday, the MLS club announced this move and mentioned that they have provided $50,000 in 2026 general allocation money (GAM) to the San Jose Earthquakes to obtain Eustáquio’s discovery rights.

“Stephen is a top-notch midfielder with significant international experience who understands what it takes to succeed and lead at the highest levels,” stated LAFC co-president and general manager John Thorrington.

“We’re thrilled to add a player of his caliber, and we believe he will make an immediate and positive impact both on and off the field,” Thorrington added.

Eustáquio has played a key role for Porto since joining the Portuguese club in 2022, partaking in the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and last summer’s FIFA Club World Cup.

However, the 29-year-old has struggled to secure regular playing time this season and will now aim to stay match-fit ahead of Canada’s co-hosting of the World Cup this summer.

Having previously represented Portugal at the under-21 level, Eustáquio has earned 54 caps and scored four goals for the Canadian senior team.
