Liverpool has faced a setback with their recent summer acquisition, Jérémy Jacquet, who has reportedly suffered a “serious” shoulder injury, as confirmed by Rennes head coach Habib Beye.
The 20-year-old defender took a heavy fall in the second half of a 3-1 defeat against Lens during Ligue 1 action and appeared to be in significant pain as he exited the field.
– What can Liverpool expect from defender Jérémy Jacquet this summer?
“It’s his shoulder for Jeremy, while Abdelhamid [Ait Boudlal], another injured Rennes player, has a muscle issue,” Beye noted in his post-match commentary.
“We’ll need to assess their conditions further, but it’s certainly quite serious for both players.”
Liverpool successfully secured the highly-rated France under-21 centre-back for £55 million ($74 million) plus an additional £5 million in potential add-ons, defeating competition from Chelsea. The deal was finalized on July 1, and Jacquet signed a five-year contract with an option for a one-year extension.
Reds head coach Arne Slot expressed his satisfaction with the acquisition, stating, “It’s very pleasing, of course. He’s a very big talent, and perhaps more than just a talent given his age.”
“We weren’t the only ones interested in him, which speaks volumes about our team’s efforts to secure such a promising player,” Slot added.
