Fernandes: I Always…

Bruno Fernandes has praised head coach Michael Carrick following Manchester United‘s impressive four-match winning streak since Carrick took over at Old Trafford.

On Saturday, Manchester United defeated Tottenham 2-0, marking Carrick’s perfect start as head coach and rekindling hopes for a return to the Champions League after a two-year absence.

Carrick: Utd haven’t ‘cracked it’ despite Spurs victory

Bryan Mbeumo and Fernandes scored in each half at Old Trafford after Spurs were reduced to 10 men due to Captain Cristian Romero‘s red card in the 29th minute.

This victory strengthens Carrick’s position as a candidate for the head coach role on a permanent basis.

“Michael has achieved everything here and understands what it means to these fans and to the club to win, along with the effort it takes to succeed,” Fernandes told TNT Sports. “That adds something special to the team.”

This marks the first time in two years that United has secured four consecutive Premier League victories.

Since stepping in for the dismissed Ruben Amorim last month, Carrick has revitalized the team’s fortunes. He was initially signed until the season’s end, but his impressive results are likely to put him in strong contention for a permanent role as the club’s leadership evaluates future plans.

“Michael came in with clear ideas about empowering the players,” Fernandes remarked. “He’s great with his words.”

“I believe he remembers what I mentioned during our last game together as manager. I always thought he could be a great manager, and he’s proving it.”

Fernandes’ goal in the 81st minute—his 200th goal contribution since joining United in 2020—sealed the victory.

Currently, United sits fourth in the league with 44 points, surpassing last season’s total of 42 points.

While the club has exited both domestic cup competitions, qualifying for the Champions League would mark a successful season.
