Bayern Munich is engaged in “intensive discussions” with Harry Kane regarding his future. However, specific negotiations around a new contract have yet to commence, as stated by the club’s sporting director, Max Eberl.
The England captain Kane has netted 24 goals in the Bundesliga this season, making him the top scorer in Europe’s leagues.
Kane transferred to Bayern from Tottenham in the summer of 2023 for around £100 million ($137m) and is contracted until the summer of 2027.
Despite his current contract, the 32-year-old has been rumored to be a target for a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia if he decides against renewing with the German champions.
Eberl emphasized that while no agreements have been reached yet, Bayern maintains regular communication with Kane, who boasts an impressive record of 123 goals in 129 matches.
“We are in discussions, but that does not imply that negotiations have started. We are in intensive talks with Harry, and further steps will follow,” Eberl mentioned at a press conference ahead of Bayern’s DFB Pokal quarter-final against RB Leipzig.
“I cannot address the ongoing rumors suggesting someone is preparing a transfer bid for Kane. All I can confirm is that we are in close contact with Harry regarding him and our success.”
Kane scored two penalties in Bayern’s 5-1 triumph over Hoffenheim, keeping his team six points ahead of Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga standings.
Bayern manager Vincent Kompany is expected to rotate his squad for the upcoming cup match but recognizes the challenge Leipzig poses.
“They possess wingers and a front three capable of scoring numerous goals and displaying great creativity, making them a formidable attacking team,” said Kompany. “It’s a home game and a must-win situation for us. We aim to showcase our capabilities.”
“We also boast strong wingers and impressive midfield players. If we can find the right balance, it could lead to a very positive outcome for us.”
Bayern previously defeated Leipzig 6-0 in their opening Bundesliga match and also secured a 5-1 win last month.

On the other hand, Leipzig head coach Ole Werner asserts that his team “has nothing to lose” in this knockout match.
“We need to capitalize on the spaces that arise, playing with courage and confidence. We have players capable of posing a threat to Bayern,” Werner noted in a press conference.
“Our success hinges on our ability to defend cohesively and aggressively at various levels. We need to function as a unit, maintain tight distances, and collaborate defensively. At the same time, we want to demonstrate our own style of play and create scoring opportunities.”
