Pep Guardiola celebrated a “massive” victory as title-contending Manchester City secured a vital yet tense win over Newcastle on Saturday.
Nico O’Reilly netted two goals, leading City to a 2-1 triumph at the Etihad Stadium, narrowing Arsenal’s lead to just two points in the Premier League.

The City manager emphasized the importance of remaining focused on the upcoming match against Leeds next Saturday, steering clear of distractions from the overall title race.
“It was a massive win. Newcastle are a fantastic team,” Guardiola stated.
“Today’s match is a precursor to what we will face in the next 11 games. Every match will be a tough battle.
“We have three days off now. I told the players to enjoy life, have a few caipirinhas and daiquiris, and then we’ll have proper training sessions before heading to Leeds.”
“Thinking too far ahead, like considering what Arsenal or Aston Villa might do, could lead to disappointment. It’s essential to stay focused on winning the next game; there’s still a lot to play for in the Premier League with ten matches remaining.”
With Arsenal’s unexpected draw against Wolves earlier in the week, the match began with a lively atmosphere. However, tension built as Newcastle mounted a late charge, although Guardiola credited the fans for their support during the crucial moments.
“The atmosphere and the connection with our fans today was the best we’ve had this season,” he noted. “We have five home games left in the Premier League, and we need that energy.”
O’Reilly’s two goals came before and after a deflected equalizer by Lewis Hall, reflecting City’s strong performance in the first half.
“The victory was paramount,” O’Reilly acknowledged. “We’re focused on closing the gap and applying pressure, but I’m also thrilled with my two goals.
“There are still many games ahead, and we just need to take it one match at a time.”
