FUSCHL AM SEE, Austria – Red Bull has confirmed its support for former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp, who remains the drinks giant’s head of global soccer, refuting speculation about his job security after just a year in the position.
An executive dismissed rumors as “nonsense” on Thursday.
Since January 2025, Klopp has been responsible for Red Bull’s network of clubs, including Leipzig, Salzburg, and the New York Red Bulls.

Reports from Salzburger Nachrichten in Austria suggested Klopp’s position was uncertain due to a perceived lack of progress at the clubs since he took over.
Oliver Mintzlaff, CEO of corporate projects and investments, labeled the claims “total nonsense” and said, “On the contrary, we are extremely satisfied with Jürgen Klopp’s work.”
Mintzlaff emphasized that Klopp is “in constant contact” with coaches and sporting directors throughout the Red Bull network. “We are convinced that he is the right man for this job. Our full focus and energy is directed towards him,” he added.
Upon assuming his role in 2024, Klopp indicated he had no plans to return to coaching in the near future and envisioned his position primarily as an advisor to the coaches of various Red Bull-affiliated clubs worldwide.
While some clubs were facing challenges when Klopp began his tenure, there has been some improvement. Leipzig, which had missed out on European qualification by finishing seventh in the Bundesliga during the 2024-25 season, is now in fifth place under coach Ole Werner, who was brought in during the offseason.
Salzburg experienced a mixed performance at last year’s Club World Cup but is currently leading the Austrian league after finishing second in the previous two seasons. In Major League Soccer, the Red Bulls did not reach the playoffs in 2025, ending a streak of 15 consecutive postseason appearances.
