Lionel Messi was brought down by a fan and a security guard following a friendly match for Inter Miami in Puerto Rico on Thursday.
During the game against Ecuador’s Independiente del Valle in Bayamón, a fan sprinted onto the field, grabbing Messi by the waist before a security guard intervened, causing both to fall.
Fortunately, Messi appeared uninjured. He quickly stood up and moved to a different area of the pitch as security officials increased their presence to deter further intrusions.
Multiple fans had leaped onto the field around the 88th minute of the exhibition match, which started an hour late.
Messi, who came on as a substitute at halftime, successfully scored a penalty, contributing to Inter Miami’s 2-1 victory.
This match was initially planned for February 13 but was postponed due to Messi experiencing some leg discomfort during a prior exhibition against Barcelona SC from Ecuador.
Inter Miami, which began its MLS season with a 3-0 defeat to LAFC, will face Orlando City next on Sunday.
