The Portuguese club announced that disciplinary actions have been initiated against the fans involved, which may result in permanent bans.

“Benfica has suspended the memberships of five individuals following the launch of disciplinary procedures that may lead to the maximum sanction defined in the club’s regulations, which is expulsion,” the club stated.
“An internal investigation commenced after the February 17 match between Benfica and Real Madrid due to inappropriate behavior in the stands, characterized as racist and contrary to the values and principles upheld by the club.”
“Benfica reiterates its zero-tolerance stance toward any form of discrimination or racism and will continue to respond decisively to behaviors that undermine the club’s values.”
The first leg of the Champions League playoff was paused for nearly 10 minutes after the referee activated the anti-racism protocol based on an allegation from Real Madrid’s Vinícius Júnior that he was racially abused by Benfica’s Gianluca Prestianni.
The Argentine forward has denied these accusations, and Benfica has defended him, claiming he is the target of a “defamation campaign.”
Benfica head coach Jose Mourinho faced criticism for implying that Vinícius’ corner flag dance celebration provoked a confrontation with Benfica players, including Prestianni.
Real Madrid won the first leg 1-0, eventually securing a 3-1 aggregate victory in the return match at the Bernabeu, where Vinícius scored in both matches.
During the game at the Bernabeu, more than 3,000 Benfica fans reportedly jeered every time Vinícius touched the ball, and they vocally booed when his name was announced in the starting lineup.
