Inter Miamis Berterame…

Germán Berterame, Inter Miami’s Designated Player (DP), has expressed his continuous inspiration from training alongside his new teammates, including Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, and Rodrigo de Paul. He specifically highlighted Suárez as a model to emulate.

“Leo [Messi], Rodri [de Paul], and [Luis] Suárez are players with great stature who enhance your understanding of the game and individual skills. Especially Suárez, who plays alongside me as a number nine; he truly serves as an example,” said Berterame.

“I’ve been watching his matches for years, and he never ceases to impress me. Now that I’m training with him, I’m learning so much—not just from his ball control and finishing but also from his patience in the box. It’s incredible, and I’m absorbing everything I can from him.”

Berterame noted that having Messi on the field gives his teammates a significant boost, pushing them to elevate their performance.

“Having him by your side is always a plus. The performances I observed before joining showed just how much he contributes. Their championship victory speaks volumes. Playing alongside him instills a strong desire to keep improving, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be here,” he added.

Berterame made the switch to Inter Miami as a DP ahead of the 2026 Major League Soccer season, transferring from CF Monterrey of Liga MX. His contract runs through the 2028-29 MLS season, with the possibility of an extension for 2029-30.

When asked about how the move to Inter Miami might affect his chances of making Mexico’s World Cup roster, Berterame mentioned he has received encouragement from national team coach Javier Aguirre.

“I have indeed spoken with him, and he has been very supportive. He reassured me with his confidence and encouraged me to maintain my current level to secure my place on the national team,” Berterame explained.

To date, Berterame has made eight appearances for Mexico, netting two goals since becoming a naturalized player in 2024.
