NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Lindsey Heaps netted a goal and provided an assist, while Jaedyn Shaw also scored, leading the United States to a 2-0 victory over Argentina in the SheBelieves Cup on Sunday, marking their sixth consecutive shutout.
The U.S. has outscored its opponents 27-1 in the past seven matches. Coach Emma Hayes’ team remains unbeaten since a 2-1 loss to Portugal on October 23 in Chester, Pennsylvania.
Heaps opened the scoring in the 19th minute, striking from the edge of the box. Emma Sears maneuvered the ball out of the left corner into the box and passed it to the unmarked Heaps, who finished with her left foot, marking her 39th international goal—the highest total on the current U.S. roster.
Shaw added to the scoreline with a right-footed shot from the top left corner of the box that curved into the net, securing her 10th international goal.
Following Shaw’s goal, Lilly Reale received treatment for a right leg injury and was substituted for Emily Fox.
In stoppage time, Argentina’s Milagros Martín received a yellow card for pushing Trinity Rodman in the back shortly after Rodman entered the match as a substitute. Rodman received treatment on the field during the second half and did not return for the final moments of the game.
The U.S. controlled the game with 67.7% possession, registering three shots on target compared to Argentina’s one against U.S. goalkeeper Claudia Dickey.
The SheBelieves Cup, featuring four teams, will continue in Columbus, Ohio, on March 4, with the U.S. set to play against Canada, who defeated Colombia 4-1 earlier on Sunday.
