Manchester City is optimistic that the injury which kept Erling Haaland sidelined over the weekend is not serious.

The Norwegian forward missed City’s 1-0 Premier League win against Leeds on Saturday due to an undisclosed issue he sustained during training leading up to the match.

Manager Pep Guardiola did not provide a definitive timeline for the 25-year-old’s return, but sources informed the Press Association that the injury is not a major worry.

Haaland, who has netted 29 goals across all competitions this season, is set to be evaluated on Monday and Tuesday in preparation for Wednesday’s match against Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium.

“I don’t have an answer at the moment,” Guardiola stated after the match at Elland Road. “He wasn’t ready to play today, but we have four days before Nottingham Forest and then three days for the FA Cup at Newcastle at 8 p.m.”

Guardiola also made a pointed comment regarding the kickoff time for next Saturday’s fifth-round match at St James’ Park.

“Thank you so much for that kickoff time, it’s going to help us travel to Madrid with less recovery time, thank you,” Guardiola remarked.

Nico O’Reilly, who had to leave the match against Leeds in the 70th minute due to an ankle injury, will also undergo evaluation.
