Andy Robertson has emphasized that he has “always been committed” to Liverpool, despite January interest from Tottenham Hotspur, and stated that his contract situation will remain private.
The Reds began discussions with Spurs in January after Robertson expressed interest in a transfer. The Scotland international has seen his starting position jeopardized this season following the arrival of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth last summer. Nevertheless, he ultimately opted to stay at Anfield due in part to multiple defensive injuries within the squad.
“There was clear interest,” Robertson stated. “Conversations were held between both clubs. However, the decision was made for me to stay. We chose Liverpool, and that’s how it turned out.”
“I was never lacking in commitment. I’ve been devoted to Liverpool for nearly nine years, and I will remain committed until I’m no longer needed. That’s always been my approach. This club has given me everything, and I’ve also given everything in return. It’s been a wonderful relationship, and I hope it continues. January is behind us now.”
“Now we look ahead. My focus was always on helping the team both on the pitch and in training. Whatever transpired off the field, I remained focused on football.”
With his contract expiring this summer, Robertson is expected to attract interest from several clubs if he decides to leave on a free transfer.
Reflecting on his future, the 31-year-old added, “I’ve always maintained that my discussions will remain between me and the club. It’s not a matter to be public. I have a great rapport with Richard [Hughes], Mike Gordon, and Michael Edwards.”
“These individuals have played a significant role in my journey at the club, and I hold them in high regard. Consequently, out of mutual respect, our discussions will remain internal. When a decision is reached, especially with just three months left on my contract, it will be communicated to the public.”
Robertson put in an impressive performance as Liverpool triumphed over Wolves in the FA Cup fifth round on Friday night, registering a goal and an assist at Molineux Stadium. He believes Liverpool still has the potential for a strong finish to the season despite their patchy form.

“My priority has always been to win trophies with Liverpool,” Robertson expressed. “That has consistently been my focus. Every season, my goal is to secure trophies, whether it’s the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup, the Champions League, or the Premier League.
“I constantly strive to win trophies because that’s what the club and fans expect. Our collective aim is to make this season as successful as possible. It’s clear the league hasn’t gone as we wanted, and we’ve exited the Carabao Cup, so we have two opportunities left. If we perform like we did on Friday, we have a chance, but if we replicate Tuesday’s performance, we won’t. We must find that level of consistency.”
“Ideally, by season’s end, we can all be smiling, and that’s what we are working toward.”
