Arteta sees Arsenal among…

Mikel Arteta expressed his belief that Arsenal should be competing among Europe’s elite, but he challenged his team to demonstrate their Champions League capabilities against Bayer Leverkusen.

Under Arteta’s guidance, the Gunners have achieved their first knockout stage victory in 14 years and reached the semifinals for the first time in 16 years over the last two seasons.

Arsenal won all eight of their group matches and are favored to move forward once again, while Leverkusen, the Bundesliga champions of 2023-24, currently sit in sixth place in the standings.

When asked if Arsenal has positioned themselves among Europe’s best, Arteta replied, “I believe so. In football, you need to prove it on the pitch tomorrow night.

“You must be fully aware of what the game demands. Performance on the day is crucial. Champions League matches hinge on those moments, and you need to outshine your opponent.”

“Our players definitely have gained more experience in this competition. When I first joined, many in the squad had never participated in it. This experience is critical in any tournament. They now have a better understanding, and it’s time for us to deliver.”

Arteta confirmed that William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães, Declan Rice, and Martín Zubimendi are fit to face Leverkusen. However, Leandro Trossard and Riccardo Calafiori are doubts after both were substituted during Saturday’s FA Cup victory against Mansfield Town, while club captain Martin Ødegaard will be unavailable.
