Struggling coach Igor Tudor has urged his Tottenham players to avoid being “victims” and to disregard the “nonsense” as he attempts to rejuvenate his beleaguered squad ahead of their match against Liverpool> on Sunday.
Pressure is mounting on interim head coach Tudor following Tottenham’s 5-2 defeat to Atlético Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday. A disastrous start saw backup goalkeeper Antonín Kinsky make two critical errors.
Kinsky was replaced after just 17 minutes, and Tudor witnessed Tottenham suffer their fourth consecutive loss, marking an unprecedented start to his tenure. Additionally, the team has now recorded six straight losses this year, setting a new club record.
“This is a challenging moment, but it’s also an opportunity to change things,” Tudor stated. “In life, you can choose how to perceive your circumstances. You can either dwell on the negatives or rise to the occasion.”
“You can see yourself as a victim or you can take action to change your circumstances. That’s the message I’ve shared with the players. Everyone has their opinions, but life is all about perspective. You can choose to see the glass as half empty or half full.
“Currently, it feels like the glass is mostly empty. However, tough times do not last—eventually, they will pass. I believe those who view this as a challenge and an opportunity will emerge stronger, both as individuals and as players.
“In difficult times, it’s crucial to focus on ourselves. Recent discussions surrounding the club have suggested a sense of victimhood, but I reject that notion. We are a team and we are collectively responsible.”
“Everything else is just noise. I approach my work with a psychological focus, helping to instill courage in my teammates. Some of them may struggle to manage their emotions, but my goal is to support them.”

“My objective is to support as many players as possible, whether it’s 15 or 18 out of 20. Sometimes circumstances are beyond control, but often there are small adjustments we can make.”
“Even minor support can help, but it’s essential for players to understand: don’t adopt a victim mentality.
“It’s vital to realize that the issues at the club should not overshadow individual responsibility. This is the core of the message I want to convey.”
During a tense press conference, Tudor emphasized that discussions about his future were “not a topic.” He also confirmed that captain Cristian Romero and João Palhinha will be unavailable for the trip to Anfield.
Both players are observing concussion protocols, adding to Tudor’s challenges as Micky van de Ven is suspended, and Yves Bissouma has also been ruled out.
Tudor confirmed that Guglielmo Vicario will return against Liverpool and commended Kinsky for his resilience.
“He returned to training the day after and was impressive,” Tudor remarked. “He possesses both strength and talent. A promising career is ahead of him.”
