VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Brian White netted two goals for the second straight match, while Sebastian Berhalter kicked off the scoring with an eighth-minute penalty and provided two assists, as the Vancouver Whitecaps triumphed over Minnesota United with a resounding 6-0 victory on Sunday.

Mathias Laborda scored in the 22nd minute, and Emmanuel Sabbi added another in the 43rd to give the Whitecaps a commanding 4-0 lead at halftime. Cheikh Sabaly put the finishing touch on the scoring with his first MLS goal in just his second appearance, finding the net in the 74th minute. Meanwhile, Yohei Takaoka recorded four saves, earning his third shutout of the season.

For Minnesota (1-2-1), the match marked a tie for the club’s record for goals conceded in a single game and set a new record for the largest margin of defeat. It was the most significant victory margin recorded by Vancouver.

White scored in the 13th minute to extend the lead to 2-0 and converted another penalty in the 54th minute, increasing Vancouver’s lead to five goals. He has amassed 84 goals and 16 assists for the Whitecaps in all competitions, becoming the first player in the club’s MLS history to achieve at least 100 goal contributions.

Sebastian Schonlau made his MLS debut, coming on for Edier Ocampo in the 65th minute.

Drake Callender made two saves for Minnesota.
